Does Church of Fools have the blessing of an official church... Anglican, Roman Catholic, or whatever?
The Methodist Church in the UK has been our official lead sponsor. This is what Rev. Jonathan Kerry, Co-ordinating Secretary for Worship and Learning of the UK Methodist Church, had to say about the project:
"'Foolish' was the reaction of some stalwart Methodists to the news that we were sponsoring the pilot stage of the Church of Fools, but many more have been delighted, intrigued and inspired by the project. Methodism's 18th century founder, John Wesley, said: 'The world is my parish,' and 300 years later that parish includes cyberspace as well. Visiting and worshipping in Church of Fools has been challenging and uplifting and made us think again about what are the essentials of being a church. Bricks and mortar churches will continue, but now supplemented by online Christian communities."
The Bishop of London, Rt Rev. Richard Chartres, was also a major sponsor of the church, and preached at the first service on 11th May from the National Christian Resources Exhibition (CRE) in Esher, Surrey. CRE also helped in sponsoring the pilot stage of the project.
We are now trying to raise funds to establish the church permanently.
